Pearlies....a hot and D.I.Y. Trend

So your wondering what was Kylie Minogue was wearing for the Queens Diamond Jubilee? The answer is a style of clothing called Pearlies. Pearly gear is worn by Cockneys in festive mood, costumes with distinctive patterns of mother-of-pearl buttons. Remember that scene from Mary Poppins with the cartoon band. They were a Pearlie band or other wise know for their Cockney style.

I'm predicting this will be huge as studs are fade out. Summer is hot this year with bejeweled denim shorts so why not give this look a trial run. Every season Fashionistas want to enhance their unique style so this is a great DIY anyone with a needle, black clothing (color can be fun too) thread, "white"-"pearl" buttons and basic sewing skills can recreate.

Check out these pics for some pattern and style inspiration. Glitter on my Pearlies!!!!

Polaroid and Time Zero

Polaroid to me was everything I loved about photography. The in the moment, unscripted nature of the reaction, instant memory maker. As a kid growing up in MA I loved driving by the Polaroid building. It was magic. You knew that in that place something amazing was being created. As an adult it became the beacon for home. Every trip out of state left us waving by to the building and all the people in it. Heading out for an adventure where most certainly a Polaroid would be taken. The building welcomed us home and then she was gone. The film Time Zero, The Last Year Of Polaroid was so wonderful. It reminded me so much of why I love taking pictures on my camera and the joy it brought to millions. The stories from former workers and artist who were all touched by the closing of a landmark all had been touched in the same way I had. Grant Hamilton, brought that warm feeling back. So in honor of Polaroid and the Impossible Project Team we took our 1st Polaroid picture on over 10 years. Thank you to the team that brought this art form back from near extinction.

Emblished Shorts Hot Hot Hot!!!!

This summers hottest trend is the embellished short. Be it a high waist or boyfriend fit. This trend will have you feeling artsy and super unique using studs, dye and patches. So grab your glue gun, a pair of sheers and a lose pair of denim shorts because summer is quickly coming your way.

Check out some inspiration pics and this handy do it your self from Who What Wear!!!!

Directions:
1.    Use a ruler and a pencil to draw a diagonal grid pattern on your shorts. The size of the grid and spacing depends on your preference. (Note: our lines are approximately half an inch apart.)

2.    Using the white puffy paint, trace over the pencil-line grid. Wait approximately an hour for the puffy paint to dry completely.

3.    Once the puffy paint is dry, dip a real or fake flower into fabric paint to create a stamp. Stamp the flower directly onto the shorts in a diagonal pattern. We used about nine to 10 stamps per each leg or  shorts. Wait approximately one hour for fabric paint to dry.

4.    Once fabric paint is dry, use fabric glue to secure the large paillette sequins to the center of each "flower" stamp. Wait 15-20 minutes for the sequins to dry.

5.     Once all of the paillette sequins are in place and dry, glue the larger, 24mm gems to the center of each paillette.

6.    Glue the smaller, 14mm gems between each "flower" shape. We used approximately five to six per each leg of the shorts.

7.     Allow to completely dry before wearing.

GLEE's Alex Newell is completly Unique!

I met my friend Alex back in the summer of 2011. He was a pit singer for Disney's Tarzan at North Shore Music Theater. Right a way I knew he had a super talent and I was captivated by his voice.
If you have not heard of Alex, it may be that you are living under a rock. Alex was the runner up on Fox's GLEE Project.
Just recently he visited CA to shoot 4 episodes of GLEE which started to air on April 17th, 2012.

Alex plays "Wade", a character on Glee who made her debut appearance in Saturday Night Glee-ver, the sixteenth episode of the third season. She is the first transgendered character on Glee, and identifies as female thus female pronouns should be used.http://glee.wikia.com/wiki/Wade

I chatted with Alex to find out who is his influence are and what is next for him.

KSP: Alex, THANK YOU deeply for taking time to chat.
A.N.: No really thank you!!
KSP: Who has been your biggest influence in life and style?
A.N.: For life I'm gonna say......Beyonce, She's amazing and beautiful and I want to be her.
She's hard working and she's like the most well know women in the world.
KSP: What is "Wade's" story?
A.N.: He's just a kid that wants to wear a dress and sing.
KSP: You have played a women before on stage, was this an easy transition? Do you feel this character is giving a new voice for a younger generation?
A.N.: Yes I have I was Motor Mouth in Hairspray and it was amazing. The transition was really easy because I was so happy to be playing the part!!
KSP:Do you think your character will open more eyes?
A.N.: I hope it does!! its was amazing to see all the comments pour in, how people loved it

and understood the new character !!!!
KSP: Where do you hope all of this will take you?
A.N.: I hope to do more on tv.
KSP: Maybe your people can talk to Beyonce's people and you could sing together.
A.N.: Yes I would love it, I'd die!
KSP: lol, if you could do a song together what would it be?
A.N.: "Love on top", thats my jam I love that song like a fat kid loves cake.
KSP: I think after watching " Boggie Shoes" I can see you channeling your inner Beyonce.
KSP: Last question ....Beyonce's Mom is a huge factor in her success. I know your close to your Mom so will she also stay near by to help you in your career?
A.N.: Hahaha yes she's my Mom she's a huge stage mom. She is and sometimes gets over barring but alas she is a huge part of my success she keeps me grounded
KSP: Alex thanks for taking the time to chat. I love getting to know you more and more.
A.N.: No really thank you!! I'm glad I know you as a friend.
KSP: xoxo

Check Alex out as "Wade"in GLEE on FOX Tuesday nights!!!
Incase you missed it here is some UNIQUE Wade time:

Trivia Glee Wiki

  • Wade seeks advice from Mercedes and Kurt because she is both African-American and a member of the LGBT community. Specifically the T.
  • Ryan Murphy called Newell Mercedes and Kurt's love child on The Glee Project because of his high pitched voice, race and sexuality.
  • Her true-self, "Unique", is the exact opposite of Wade; confident, strong, and secure in her gender identity.
  • Wade is the show's first transgendered character, as she states that Kurt doesn't understand her struggles well because unlike her, he "identifies as a male".
  • Kurt and Mercedes first tried to make Wade lose Regionals for Vocal Adrenaline per Sue's advice by giving her a pair of high heels and encouraging her to go out in "drag"; however, when the two tried to explain this to Wade, it only made her performance as Unique stronger.

Summer 2012 trend, MIX IT UP!!!

One of this seasons hottest trends is pattern mixing. Done right you have a chic, color statement but it can go wrong real fast so here are some great pics to get you heading in the right direction.

Things to keep in mind:
Be bold but give the eyes a rest by pairing the bold with a smaller or softer tone pattern.
Play up complementary colors
Pair a luster fabric with a neutral or keep them all in the same family

Have fun...best case is you start a whole new trend XO
